Wasan (Arabic for the drowsiness just before sleep) is a live Arabic site for reading manga, manhwa and manhua. Behind the reader sit accounts, comments and a chat for every series, paid subscriptions, and an admin panel the team runs it from. Arabic-first and built for the phone.

Who it's for

Arabic readers, mostly on phones, often late at night.

People who follow manga and manhwa in Arabic and read a few chapters at a time, usually on a phone. They search by the English title they already know, expect to pick up where they stopped, and want to talk about the chapter they just finished.

What it solves

  1. 01

    Arabic, with English titles

The interface is Arabic and right to left, while series keep their English names, isolated so the Arabic around them never reorders. Chapter numbers use Western digits because that's what people type into search, and search takes either language.

  2. 02

A reader that stays out of the way

The reader keeps your place, fetches the next chapter early and reserves each page's height so nothing jumps while images load. A locked chapter never sends its page images to the browser at all.

  3. 03

Free to read, paid for by extras

Reading needs no account. Plus, Pro and Ultra subscriptions, from $0.99 to $3.99 a month, add profile flair, and Ultra removes the ads. The odds of everything in a mystery box are written on the box.

  4. 04

Run by the team, not a developer

Publishing, scheduled releases, translation, imports and moderation all happen in an admin panel. A background worker handles scheduled chapters, notifications and image processing.

What it doesn't solve

  1. 01

    Free reading carries ads

Without Ultra, readers see banner ads and an ad page between chapters. The pages of a chapter are never covered, but the ads are what keep reading free.

  2. 02

    Paying in money isn't instant

Subscriptions paid in coins renew on their own each month. Paying in money goes through a request instead of a card checkout.

  3. 03

    It runs on one server

Images are served straight from Cloudflare R2, but the site, API and database share one 4 GB server. Daily encrypted backups protect the data, not the uptime: if that machine goes down, so does the site.
