Koshkol (Arabic for notebook) is a live study platform for one psychology department in Egypt, starting with its second-year batch. Every subject keeps its video lessons, university book, lecture times, exams and assignments together, in the order of the syllabus. Students pay from a wallet they top up with Vodafone Cash or InstaPay, and the people who teach run all of it from an admin panel. Arabic-first and built for the phone.

Who it's for
One batch, one department, mostly on phones.
Second-year psychology students at one Egyptian university, a batch of around 200. They study in Arabic, mostly on a phone and often on mobile data, and they pay with Vodafone Cash or InstaPay rather than a card. On the other side are the people who record the explanations, who have to run the platform without a developer. The other three years can be switched on later, but every decision was made for this group first.
What it solves
- 01
One place per subject
Lessons, the university book, lecture times, exam dates and assignments sit under each subject in syllabus order. The home screen opens on the next lecture and where it is.
- 02
Paying the way students pay
A wallet topped up by Vodafone Cash or InstaPay. Buy one lesson for 10 EGP, a whole subject at about 30% off, or every subject for 99 EGP a month. The first lesson of each subject is free.
- 03
Video on a weak connection
Lessons stream in 360p or 720p, the app installs to the home screen and opens instantly from what the phone last saw, and every request for video checks the account is allowed to watch it.
- 04
Run without a developer
Uploads resume if the connection drops. Top-ups, student ID checks for the university books, prices and the timetable are all handled from the admin panel.

What it doesn't solve
- 01
Payments aren't automatic
There's no card gateway. Each top-up is a manual transfer that an admin checks against the student's screenshot and approves, so credit arrives when someone reviews it, not instantly.
- 02
It can't stop sharing
Video access is checked on every request, but there's no DRM, watermark or device limit. A paying student can still screen-record a lesson or share a login.
- 03
It isn't a full LMS
No quizzes, grades, attendance or live classes. Students can ask questions under a lesson, but testing still happens in the department.
- 04
It's sized for one batch
One small server and one SQLite database, planned for around 200 students. Several universities or thousands of students would need a different setup.
